I use to forget where I put my keys. This time it is really weird. Before starting my journey I'm given a new laptop with a new bag. The new bag has several new features including a special pocket for passports. During the workshop I attended in a beautiful resort outside NYC I keep my belongings in a safe. On a Thursday, the day we leave the place I take everything out from the safe and travel by bus back to town. In the evening I enjoy walking around (Madison Avenue, 59th street) and shopping. Then i have a sushi dinner in a restaurant full of Japanese patrons... On Friday when coming to a meeting I realise that my passport is not with me and I dont find it in its special pocket. I should take a flight in the evening but still dont find it. .. After consultation with the travel office and the embassy (it is a national passport) I decide to ask for my LP to be sent by DHL so that I can continue my mission in an other country the following week with the visas already available on it. The embassy asked me also to record the loss of the passport with the local police office... Interestingly the police office asked for a formal document from the embassy certifying that I am actually a citizen of that country... and the day is off on Friday without being able to get the police document.
During the week end I kept wondering how I could have lost that passport: I vainly went back to all the places I visited on Thursday evening.
Monday morning after having checked ten times all my luggages I finally find out that the passport is in the special pocket which has 2 parts...
I see 3 points to think of;
1. I forgot where I actually put it
2. I panicked when looking for it
3. The situation in my home country is deeply disturbing me
Ageing or disease? i still feel lucky because the financial implications of the situation were not too heavy but ...
Now I am scared and wonder when will be the next time I will be exposed to this kind of situation with consequences that may be more serious.
